Eight new DMDP partnerships approved

The DMDP Secretariat is happy to announce that eight new partnerships have received final approval of full project proposals and will begin implementation in 2021. The new projects will be implemented in seven different countries in Asia and Africa. The projects are in the agriculture & agro-processing, circular economy and green technology sectors and engage a broad range of small, medium, and large sized companies. All projects contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 working towards decent work and economic growth. The projects are to be implemented over the next five years with a view to becoming self-sustaining beyond 2026.

• The Integrated Grain Handling Project will promote commercially viable ‘grain hubs’ to farming communities in Uganda, which will improve the quality of grain handling, drying and storage in an effort to minimalise post-harvest losses. Project by Access2innovation, BM Silo, Ag-Ploutos Company Limited, ENGSKO, Gl. Buurholt and Opportunity International.
• The Safe Water for All Project will promote the installation of Water Treatment Plants and Effluent Treatment Plants with the dual aim of creative a commercially viable business model for cleaning industrial effluent and ensuring safe drinking water in Bangladesh, both of which will create jobs in the water sector. Project by BRAC UK, Grundfos, BRAC Bangladesh, BRAC Bank Limited and Hydro Industries Limited.
• The Innovating the Cashew Value Chain Project will improve human and infrastructure capacity to locally process quality cashew products in the Mkinga region of Tanzania, eliminating raw material waste and unlocking untapped commercial opportunities in the cashew value chain. Project by CARE Denmark, Out-Growers and CARE International in Tanzania.
• The Fair Recycling Project will integrate informal and marginalised waste pickers and refugees to a formalised plastics recycling value chain in Kenya, contributing to safer working conditions, increased income and decent jobs and driving the transition to a localised circular plastic economy. Project by Danish Refugee Council, Unilever and Mr Green Trading Africa.
• The Organic Saffron Value Chain Project will establish the first-ever line of certified organic saffron produced and processed in Afghanistan. The project is a response to the growing international demand and in recognition of the climate-resilient and labour-intensive nature of saffron, thereby contributing to improved livelihoods. Project by Hand in Hand International, Conflictfood and Hand in Hand Afghanistan.
• The Organic Dairy Production Project will introduce organic dairy production in Indonesia, and will work with farmers in East Java to increase production and sales and improve livelihoods. Project by Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Arla, Bina Swadaya and PT Indofood CBP.
• The Increasing Employment by Creating Value from Plastic Waste Project will integrate waste pickers into a plastic-collection and processing workstream, creating new jobs, improving working conditions and creating commercial value out of plastic waste in Bangladesh. Amongst other the project will introduce pyrolysis technology to process low value plastic. Project by Practical Action, RiverRecycle and Lamor Oy.
• The Aquaculture Development Project will develop the aquaculture value chain in Nigeria, through capacity-building and improved access to markets and will develop an online education, trading and farm-management platform and a demonstration farm. Project by Solidaridad SWA, Aller Aqua, Aller Aqua Nigeria, Ijebu Development Initiative for Poverty Reduction, OxyGuard International and WorldFish.
