Scaling Sustainable Vanilla and Cocoa Agroforestry for Climate Resilience in Uganda

This project strengthens climate-smart vanilla and cocoa value chains in Western Uganda by scaling market-driven agroforestry systems. Building on a successful DGBP maturation project, it enables smallholder farmers to produce premium-quality, certified vanilla and cocoa that meet the rising demand from global buyers for sustainably produced agricultural products.

Through an established extension system and direct trading models, the project supports over 5,000 farmers in adopting climate-resilient, high-value production practices. It also advances data-driven certification and traceability to align with evolving international market and compliance requirements. By improving productivity, product quality, and market access, the project enhances incomes, reduces climate vulnerability, and positions Uganda as a key supplier in sustainable specialty markets.

The initiative aligns with Uganda’s national climate and green growth strategies, while contributing to long-term ecosystem conservation and low-carbon development through export-oriented, regenerative value chains.
