Roots to Resilience: Strengthening Climate-Adapted Food Systems for Refugee Communities
This project aims to demonstrate and validate a commercially viable, climate-resilient agriculture model in Turkana, Kenya, targeting refugee and host community farmers facing income insecurity due to climate change. The partnership focuses on proving that farming in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) can become a profitable and scalable business opportunity when supported by the right technology, structured market systems, and innovative finance.
The DGBP grant enables the commercial testing and validation of advanced agricultural technologies to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and strengthen the business case for profitable, climate-smart farming. By proving the financial viability and scalability of this model, the project aims to mobilize private capital, expand market driven agriculture, and ultimately support 5,000 households to access improved food security while promoting sustainable land management in climate-stressed areas.
