Ripening of the Vanilla and Cocoa Value Chains of Western Uganda
The project aims to develop socially and environmentally responsible as well as transparent value chains for organic vanilla and cocoa, produced through climate-smart and biodiversity-friendly agroforestry in smallholder farms. It supports production and certification, while introducing new standards for responsible business conduct (RBC). This thus fosters sustainable and inclusive growth among 1,500 households, improving income for poor, marginalised smallholder farmers and contributing to their climate change resilience.
Additionally, the project works towards making cooperatives sustainable and efficient in their engagement with international value chains. An extended RBC will be implemented throughout the value chain for vanilla and cocoa, enhancing ethical and sustainable practices. This initiative builds strong synergistic effects with ongoing agroforestry projects and aligns well with both Danish and Ugandan development strategies.
