RESET: Resilient and Sustainable Ecosystem Transformation in Tanzania

This project restores degraded rangelands in Tanzania while supporting thousands of rural families to build sustainable, income-generating businesses. Led by IUCN in partnership with private companies and local organisations, the initiative regenerates 15,000 hectares of land and helps over 5,000 smallholders earn a living from climate-friendly activities like livestock rearing, tree-based products, and eco-tourism.

The project strengthens the business side of land restoration by improving product quality, market access, and group selling. It also prepares farmer groups to benefit from future environmental service payments — such as for carbon storage or water conservation — by linking their efforts to measurable environmental outcomes.

RESET supports Tanzania’s national strategies on climate action and land restoration. By building local capacity and attracting private investment, it offers a scalable model for turning healthy landscapes into viable markets that benefit both people and the environment.
