Innovating Sustainable Growth and Green Transition to End Period Poverty in Nigeria

This project aimed to establish local production and sales of recyclable sanitary pads – called the Safepad – in Nigeria, thereby cutting environmental waste and empowering girls and women by addressing menstrual health problems. The cooperation between the Danish commercial partner, Real Relief, and the Nigerian company Namjid Textiles resulted in the successful establishment of production of the Safepad in Nigeria and employment of 25 people. Together, the partners produced and distributed 80,000 Safepads to women and girls through the project’s cooperation with local agents and the educational sector.

Through a cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, the project partners furthermore contributed to the adaptation and later adoption of the African harmonised standard for all menstrual products.
