From Beach to Big Bags (FBBB)

The project From Beach to Big Bags (FBBB) aims to address challenges related to plastic pollution and urban waste management. Amongst others, the project will establish a value chain for producing big bags using recycled polypropylene collected by informal waste pickers from waste sites and from ocean-bound plastic waste collected via a barrier.

Through this initiative the project partners wish to establish a social and economically sustainable value chain based on the collection, management, and recycling of both ‘ocean-bound’ and ‘land-based’ waste and polypropylene plastic.  The project is located in coastal peri-urban communities around, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is focused on the informal sector. The long-term ambition is to deliver a scalable model for addressing the significant challenge related to land and ocean-bound waste and plastic around the coastal areas and waterways of Tamil Nadu, while producing and supplying big bags for industrial use.
