Cool, Clean and Circular (CCC) Cold chain development and job creation within Somalia’s fishery sector

This ambitious project is set to modernize and expand Somaliland’s fisheries sector. By focusing on immediate needs and laying a foundation for long-term goals, such as regional and international fish exports, the project aims to tackle inefficiencies and unemployment, while advancing green transition, food security, resource optimization, and socio-economic development. At the heart of the project is the establishment of a Fresh Fish Hub in Hargeisa, which serves as an experimental development site to transform the accessibility, quality and quantity of fresh fish. This hub not only enhances the local seafood market, but also integrates innovative technologies and practices to pilot new methods in the fish value chain.

Moreover, the project is dedicated to uplifting over 2,000 individuals, including youth, women, and vulnerable groups, by providing essential skills and job opportunities that support their participation in an improved fish value chain. A crucial component of the CCC project is thus the Blue Economy Alliance, which fosters cross-sector collaboration and plays an important role in influencing policies and developing the fishery sector.
