Beyond Bale Wild

Beyond Bale Wild – Building a Climate Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Forest Coffee Value Chain from Ethiopia.

This partnership strengthens a commercially viable forest coffee value chain for 1,880 smallholder farmers in Bale, Ethiopia, building on a successful maturation phase to scale a certified wild coffee business model linked to European specialty markets.

It creates jobs and increases incomes by expanding organic and Fairtrade-certified wild coffee production and integrating macadamia as a complementary high-value crop. Through targeted capacity building, quality upgrading, and certification support, farmers and unions reduce compliance costs, improve productivity, and secure reliable access to premium markets.

By strengthening long-term sourcing relationships between farmers, unions, and international buyers, the project builds a stable supply base for commercial partners while creating diversified, climate-resilient income streams at community level.
