Baru-nut from Local Families in the Brazilian Cerrado to Danish Consumers

The project will mature the supply chain of the baru-nut from the Brazilian Cerrado landscape to Europe by establishing the conditions for increased production and marketing. By promoting sustainable harvesting practices, preserving natural areas where Baru trees grow, and enhancing the business prospects, the project creates a model of how biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation can align with income generation and sustainable production of nuts.

The aim of the project is to improve conservation of the Brazilian Cerrado and reduce climate vulnerability of small-scale producers by strengthening production, income growth, and livelihoods. Increased market access and greater attention to the value of non-timber forest productions will encourage the preservation of natural ecosystems, improve community resilience to climate change, and set an example for combining sustainable business practices with improved biodiversity and forest conservation.
