Bale Wild – Market development for organic wild certified forest coffee

This project aims to improve the income and livelihoods of smallholder farmers by enabling local cooperatives to access the international market with sustainably sourced, organic wild certified forest coffee. It will hence combine income generation with the protection of natural resources. The DGBP grant allows local and international commercial partners to develop a viable business case in cooperation with an experienced, locally rooted non-commercial partner.

The overall objective of the project is to establish a fair trade in organic wild collected coffee from sustainably managed forests, creating income opportunities and securing livelihoods of local communities. To maintain both socio-economic and ecological sustainability standards, measures to promote sustainable farming practices and the sustainable management of areas worthy of protection will be implemented jointly. The sustainable protection of the ecosystem and thus the natural livelihoods of the communities is an essential part of the project’s objective.
