Advancing Climate-Resilient and Regenerative Cotton in India

This project establishes a fully traceable, regenerative cotton supply shed in Madhya Pradesh, enabling sustainable sourcing at scale for BESTSELLER and other global buyers. Led by IDH in partnership with BESTSELLER, local Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and agri-SMEs, the initiative connects 7,000 smallholder farmers to premium cotton markets while improving climate resilience and rural livelihoods.

Through regenerative farming practices, farmer-led service hubs, and direct offtake agreements, the project enhances soil health, reduces input costs, and secures long-term fibre supply. Women-led bio-input and biochar businesses improve farm productivity while creating green jobs and strengthening circular economies at village level. A robust digital traceability system ensures full compliance with international buyer requirements, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and Science Based Targets.

By embedding climate and nature KPIs into sourcing contracts, the model enables commercial buyers to de-risk supply chains and scale verified impact. The project contributes to India’s climate goals while demonstrating how inclusive, regenerative value chains can deliver business value and ecosystem restoration.
