New Project in the Philippines Approved

General, News 08 Oct, 2021

The DMDP Secretariat is happy to announce that the project ‘More with Less in the Philippine Coconut Industry’ has just received final approval and will begin implementation.

The project will improve productivity and generate jobs in the coconut industry. Innovative technologies and farming practices will be introduced to enable farmers to tap nectar from the coconut flower and engage in coconut sap production. By including farmers in the value chain the commercial partner can expand production of high-value added products from coconut sap.
Tapping is highly labour intensive and thus the project contributes to increasing the income of farmers and contributing to SDG 8 and poverty alleviation.

The project is implemented by Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Lionheart and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). The DMDP secretariat is looking forward to following the progress of the project and witness how job opportunities in the coconut industry will be generated.

More details about the project can be found under the ‘Projects’ page of this website.
