New DMDP project approved
The DMDP project “Economic Growth through Fruit Transformation” was approved in December 2020 and has begun its implementation. Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), in partnership with Arla Food Ingredients Group, seek to unleash the potential of the papaya value chain in Ethiopia.
Papaya is the fourth most popular fruit crop in Ethiopia and is currently grown by more than 890.000 farmers. By developing, testing and demonstrating a model for a new value chain for fruit processing, the project will create decent jobs and income generating activities for smallholder farmers in processing, distribution, and retail. The project is estimated to create 80 new decent jobs under the value-chain model in processing. At scale, the model will have the potential to create 4.000 new jobs.
