Forest-Friendly Coffee for Climate Resilience in the Rwenzories
The Forest-Friendly Coffee for Climate Resilience in the Rwenzori project strengthens a commercially viable, traceable coffee value chain that improves climate resilience and incomes for smallholder farmers in Uganda’s Rwenzori region. By future-proofing production through deforestation-free and climate-smart practices, the project links restored ecosystems and stronger market access to long-term business performance.
The partnership between WWF Denmark and Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. (KCL) builds a clear business case: improved traceability, compliance with EUDR and certification standards, and forest-friendly branding enable access to premium European markets. Premium contracts and loyalty bonuses reward farmer performance and higher yields, while securing reliable, high-quality supply for KCL.
By aligning commercial incentives with conservation and productivity, the project strengthens farmer incomes, expands premium market share, and reinforces long-term competitiveness in sustainable coffee.
