NOURISH – Nutritious Oysternuts for Uganda’s Refugee Hosting districts, Uganda
The NOURISH project brings together a partnership that wishes to explore how the Oysternut value chain can enhance climate adaptation, improve livelihoods, and boost nutritional outcomes for vulnerable refugee and host community households in Uganda.
The Oysternut, native to Uganda, is a resilient, perennial climber that thrives without the need for additional land, fertilizers, pesticides, or intensive labor. Its ability to withstand climatic variations helps reduce household vulnerability to climate change. This project aims to evaluate the potential for Oysternut production and sales to create jobs, increase income, mitigate environmental degradation around refugee settlements, and improve household food security. Furthermore, the project will support the commercial partners with adopting inclusive and environmentally friendly business practices suitable for this value chain.
