Bale Wild – Market development for organic wild certified forest coffee

This project aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by establishing a fair trade in organic wild certified coffee from sustainably managed forests, which enables local cooperatives to access the international market thereby combining income generation and protection of natural resources. By marketing organic certified wild coffee, the project leverages market awareness on climate and biodiversity issues and creates an accountability mechanism linking producers and consumer markets in Europe.

The DGBP grant allows local and international commercial partners to develop a viable business case in cooperation with an experienced, locally rooted non-commercial partner. To maintain both socio-economic and ecological sustainability standards, measures to promote sustainable farming practices and the sustainable management of areas worthy of protection is implemented jointly. The sustainable protection of the ecosystem and thus the natural livelihoods of the communities is an essential part of the project’s objective.
